Job Summary
Conduct alcohol and drug counseling support under supervision, including screening, assessment, and intake for beneficiaries in treatment. Monitor program premises for safety and security by controlling facility entrances, screening bags and persons, and patrolling floors to prevent intrusion. Assist clients with medication self-administration, transport participants to offsite appointments, and facilitate group counseling sessions and educational activities. Maintain office housekeeping standards, ensure common areas are clean and disinfected, and log daily incidents and client compliance records. Report safety concerns, equipment defects, or unauthorized persons to supervisors immediately. Work graveyard shift on-site daily while pursuing Alcohol and Drug Counseling certification.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
- Valid Driver's license or State ID, as required by DHCS
- Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients
- Registered and in good standing in an Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certification program by an approved accrediting organization (CCAPP, CADTP or CADEE)
- Completed modules 1 and 2 of ASAM Within 2 weeks of hire
- Services for this position must be provided on-site
- report to work on-site each day of active employment
- Mandated Reporter status (must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities)
- Authorized to work in the U.S. (E-Verify participation)
Desired Qualifications
- AA or higher degree in related field
- Experience with ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD (EHR)
- Bi-lingual, Spanish and English
- Understanding of harm reduction (non-abstinence) approach with participant substance use
- Willing to work with substance abuse clients, mental health, LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS
