AOD Peer Support Worker

Job Summary

Support AOD service users awaiting treatment allocation or engaged with the STAR program by promoting recovery-oriented practice and facilitating peer learning. Assist participants to navigate health and social systems, connect with community resources, and safely attend appointments or assessments, including providing transport when required. Enhance service quality by sharing lived experience insights that inform practice and support continuous improvement while maintaining professional boundaries and fostering culturally safe interactions. Identify hazards and report incidents in line with safety and accountability requirements. Report to the AOD Manager at the Coburg site, working collaboratively with the Substance Treatment and Recovery Intake team and clinical staff.

Required Qualifications

  • A Certificate IV in Community Services or related field (AOD, Mental Health)
  • Lived and/or living experience of AOD-related harms and engagement with AOD treatment/support services
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Victorian AOD service delivery framework
  • Ability to intentionally and effectively draw on lived experience in a purposeful, recovery oriented way
  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support training
  • A current Employee Working with Children Check
  • A current Victorian Driver's Licence

Desired Qualifications

  • 1–2 years' experience in an AOD peer support role
  • Completion of AOD Skillset Competencies
