AOD Floor Operator

Job Summary

Take temp and sample items from AOD vessels, deliver acceptable samples to the lab, and perform scale checks as needed. Make manual additions to ladles when required and assist with vessel changes, maintenance, and slag-off operations. Operate scrap charge cars manually, ensuring chute material enters the AOD, and help crane operators raise and seat ladles. Sweep the deck, manage trash and dumpster logistics, and maintain the work area to 6S standards. Train with the desk operator on operations when time allows and report any safety or equipment issues immediately. Work a rotating shift schedule in a high-heat environment while complying with all Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations and company policies.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • A great understanding of the chute box loader position
  • Ability to work a rotating shift (rotating from days to nights on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule)
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to learn, adapt, and retain information
  • Must have strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Visual ability with or without correction
  • Communication abilities
  • Mobility in plant
  • Ability to work in a high heat environment
  • Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
  • Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
  • Must be able to take instructions, and apply them on a daily basis
