Job Summary
Create and maintain healthy relationships with students while writing and implementing Individual Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans. Differentiate instruction for diverse learners using multiple methods including co-teaching, whole/small group, and individualized approaches within a Professional Learning Community. Apply the Waukee Framework to meet the needs of all students, particularly those with special populations, while demonstrating flexibility and enthusiasm with high school learners. Maintain accurate grades, provide measurable feedback, and serve as a WHS student advisor. Participate in secondary-level professional development and commit to ongoing growth aligned with Iowa Teaching Standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid State of Iowa teaching license
- Understands function of behavior and ability to implement behavior intervention plans
- Successful secondary special education teaching experience
- Understands and apply in professional practice the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students
- Understand and experience in using multiple teaching methods: co-teaching, collaborating, whole/small group and individualized instruction
- Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards
- Articulate oral and written communications
- Serve and meet the expectations for being a WHS student advisor
- Maintain accurate and timely grades and provide measurable and adequate feedback on student work
- Participate in secondary-level professional development
Desired Qualifications
- Instructional Strategist II (ID) endorsement
- Instructional Strategist I or Instructional Strategist II (BD/LD)
- Previous classroom teaching experience at the 10-12th grade levels
- Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with high school learners
- Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and by able to apply that understanding to a team situation
- Create and maintain healthy relationships with students
- Experience writing and implementing Individual Education Plans and corresponding Behavior Intervention Plans
- Demonstrate an understanding of the continuum of skills needed in community and independent living
