Job Summary
Create and maintain healthy relationships with students while implementing Individual Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations, using multiple methods such as co-teaching and whole/small group instruction. Apply the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students and participate in a Professional Learning Community to support team situations. Maintain accurate grades, provide measurable feedback on student work, and serve as a WHS student advisor. Commit to ongoing professional growth aligned with Iowa Teaching Standards and participate in secondary-level professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Valid State of Iowa teaching license
- Understands function of behavior and ability to implement behavior intervention plans
- Successful secondary special education teaching experience
- Understands and experience in using multiple teaching methods: co-teaching, collaborating, whole/small group and individualized instruction
- Articulate oral and written communications
- Understand and apply in professional practice the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students, highlighted by a commitment to: differentiating instruction for learners, meeting the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations
- Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation from which to build that ongoing growth plan
- Serve and meet the expectations for being a WHS student advisor
- Maintain accurate and timely grades and provide measurable and adequate feedback on student work
- Participate in secondary-level professional development
Desired Qualifications
- Instructional Strategist II (ID) endorsement
- Instructional Strategist I or Instructional Strategist II (BD/LD) acceptable, willingness to obtain Class B Instructional Strategist II (ID) endorsement
- Previous classroom teaching experience at the 10-12th grade levels
- Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with high school learners
- Demonstrate an understanding of the continuum of skills needed in community and independent living
