Job Summary
Design engaging student-centered lessons in Social Studies based on clear Learning Targets and Goals while building positive relationships with students. Use assessment data to determine readiness levels and advance student learning through effective feedback. Support a growth mindset by fostering resilience, managing impulsivity, and developing grit among middle schoolers. Participate in professional development regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and contribute to non-instructional duties. This anticipated long-term substitute role begins September 28, 2026, at Mt. Ararat Middle School and lasts three to six weeks. The position offers a pay rate of $279.00/day and requires current Maine Department of Education certification and criminal history records check authorization.
Required Qualifications
- Current State of Maine Department of Education Social Studies K-8 or 7-12 (200) certification
- Current State of Maine Department of Education Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) authorization
- Demonstrated knowledge in the Common Core State Standards and Maine Learning Results
- Knowledge in the unique needs of the young adolescent and of the middle level philosophy
- Knowledge of integrated technology and experience with current trends in curriculum, instruction and assessment
- An understanding of a learner-centered, proficiency-based education
- An understanding of the Response to Intervention (RTI) model of student growth and support
- Proven ability to function as a contributing member of a team
