Job Summary
Inspect, service, and repair buildings, grounds, equipment, and furnishings while managing landscaped areas and athletic fields. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and masonry concerns to perform corrective repairs or replace components. Execute seasonal grounds keeping duties including mowing, fertilizing, plowing, snow removal, and maintaining parking lots. Monitor HVAC systems, prepare boilers for inspection, and replenish consumable supplies to avoid work interruptions. Report suspected problems, unsafe conditions, vandalism, and emergencies to the supervisor, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and ADA standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test)
- An acceptable score on a written pre-employment test
- A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
- Ability to comprehend and use blueprints/schematic diagrams
- Skill/experience in preventive maintenance and repair procedures (e.g., mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, etc.)
- Skill/experience in building systems (e.g., HVAC, fire suppression, security, communication, etc.)
- Multi-school or closely related building maintenance experience
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift ninety pounds and physically manage bulk products and heavy unwieldy equipment
- Ability to comply with environmental, health, and safety laws/regulations, building codes, and ADA accessibility guidelines
- Acknowledges personal accountability for decisions and conduct
- Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work/learning environment
- Effectively uses listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills
- Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual

- Seasonal shift times
- Mowing season: 9:00 AM - 2 PM
- Plowing season: shift starts at 6:00 AM
- Balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and/or standing
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes
- Exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and odors
- Exposure to wet and/or slippery surfaces
- Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases
- Interactions with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals
- Operating and/or riding in a vehicle
- Lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment
- Traveling to meetings and work assignments

- Working in proximity to moving mechanical parts
Desired Qualifications
- Post-secondary training in a trade
