Job Summary
Monitor assigned staff schedules and ensure daily facility operations comply with safety practices and standard operating procedures. Perform daily health observations, routine care including physical examinations and vaccinations, and execute clinical techniques such as injections, fluid sampling, and tissue harvest. Assist veterinary staff in training personnel on animal health and treatments while managing breeding schemes, establishing matings, and maintaining breeding records. Clean and sanitize caging, equipment, and water systems; perform preventative maintenance on cagewash machinery and general housekeeping duties. Document weekly facility QA, compile monthly billing data, and maintain all pertinent records.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Minimum seven years animal care experience
- A Bachelor's degree in a life science, Associate's degree in veterinary technology, or AALAS certification and three plus years previous animal care experience may be substituted for total experience required
- Effective interpersonal relation skills
- Must demonstrate competency in technical procedures
- Those not assigned to a Dedicated Weekend Schedule (Fri-Mon) OR Sat/Sun only schedule, must be able to work weekend and holiday rotations
- With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to work with animals for up to 8 hours a day
- Must be able to lift feed bags and animal cages up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to perform repetitive motions with arms, wrists and hands
- Must be able to utilize latex gloves
- Must be able to work in an environment that contains animal dander and dust particles
