Job Summary
Master all Animal Technician II essential tasks while assisting in training new and lower-level technicians. Perform specialized skilled animal husbandry functions including packing and unpacking animals for transport, injections, and collection procedures. Execute routine equipment maintenance, collect environmental samples for sanitization efficacy, and manage colony records and sample collection. Complete assigned administrative procedures for facility management, software functions, and data collection. Work under the Animal Technician Lead following established procedures with discretion and judgement. Requires three full years of experience as an Animal Technician II or equivalent.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three full years of experience as an Animal Technician II or equivalent.
- Demonstrated understanding of federal, national, and institutional animal welfare regulations, policies, guidelines, and SOPs.
- Good computer skills.
- Good verbal and written English communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to prepare written reports.
- Ability to lift and move 50 lbs on a regular basis and sustained physical activities such as bending, balancing, stooping, reaching, and remain standing for long periods of time.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment including scrubs, gloves, shoe covers, gowns, ear plugs / muffs, and eye protection.
Desired Qualifications
- Four years experience in animal husbandry or related field.
- Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) Certification with the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
