Job Summary
Animal Technician, Containment Laboratory at Texas A&M University oversees daily animal care and husbandry in ABSL-2/BSL-3-Ag environments, monitors environmental parameters, maintains records (animal health, census), prepares holding rooms, and assists with procedures (blood/tissue collection, injections) and waste/disinfection tasks. Requires strong observational and organizational skills, ability to work in a regulated biosafety setting, and ability to lift heavy loads; preferred certifications include AALAS/ALAT and the ability to obtain required clearances. The role also involves weekend/holiday duties and on-call responsibilities in a high-containment facility, with emphasis on facility operations and collaboration with research personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in an agricultural or animal-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three years’ experience with large animal species (cattle, horses, sheep, pigs and goats)
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to undergo and maintain a favorable background investigation and National Select Agent Registration security risk assessment
