Job Summary
Animal Services Officer responsible for enforcing animal services rules, patrolling neighborhoods to address stray or abandoned animals, assisting residents with nuisance violations, and supporting humane rehoming efforts. Duties include patrolling for emergencies and non-emergency animal situations, investigating complaints and bite reports, collecting rabies specimens, impounding animals in violation of ordinances, issuing warnings and citations, attending court hearings, responding to service requests and mediating animal disputes, educating the public on animal control policies, assisting with euthanasia following established guidelines, maintaining euthanasia records, locating lost pets and facilitating adoptions, evaluating temperament and health for safe adoptions, working with shelters and rescue organizations, responding to on-call emergencies after hours, and participating in law-enforcement functions as needed. Requires knowledge of animal care, diseases, behavior, handling, traps, and veterinary safety; strong customer service and communication skills; ability to lift up to 75 lbs; and ability to obtain required Texas certifications within specified timeframes. Work environment includes office and outdoor settings with exposure to weather and various hazards; formal prerequisites include a High School diploma or GED, 1-2 years of customer service, and possession of or ability to obtain relevant certifications and a valid Texas driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
- General experience handling and restraining animals
- 1-2 years of customer service experience
- Ability to obtain Euthanasia Technician Certification within 6 months of employment
- Ability to obtain State of Texas Basic Animal Control Certification within 1 year of employment
- Valid Texas Driver's License
