Animal Protection Investigator

Job Summary
Investigate complaints of animal cruelty/neglect, prepare case reports for legal authorities, provide testimony, impound animals when required, collect and preserve evidence, document crime scenes with photographs, assist with veterinary exams/necropsies, interview suspects/witnesses, prepare court-ready files, obtain search/arrest warrants, and educate the public on reporting cruelty. Requires experience with case management databases (e.g., Chameleon), proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong report-writing and verbal communication skills, ability to handle emotionally challenging situations, and a valid California driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- two (2) years of experience as an Animal Control/Humane Officer OR an equivalent combination totaling four (4) years in animal control.
- Completion of courses similar to California Corporation Code 14502 requirements, including PC 832.
- Completion of the Humane Academy or similar training is preferred.
