Animal Control Officer

Job Summary
Conduct daily animal control fieldwork, including investigating citizen complaints, capturing and impounding animals, and enforcing city ordinances and state laws. Coordinate bite quarantines, rabies testing procedures, and court testimony while maintaining accurate records and reporting. Manage shelter intake, assist with animal care and euthanasia, and remove dead animals as necessary. Safeguard vehicle maintenance and equipment sanitation while communicating effectively with law enforcement and the public. Work under a 24-hour rotational on-call status, lifting up to 50 pounds, and handle animal-related hazards in varying weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Animal Science or related field
- at least two years of experience at an Animal Control agency or similar organization
- related profession
- Specialized knowledge of the principles and objectives of animal control
- Specialized knowledge of the principles and objectives of animal control and of law enforcement activities
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form
- valid Driver's License
- Ability to obtain Police Commission
- Ability to understand and apply a full range of generally accepted principles and theories related to animal control
- Ability to make rapid analysis and decisions
- Ability to work as a team member
- A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor
- Be a motivated self-starter
- Work independently
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment
- Frequent bending and lifting and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- This position involves being on 24 hour call on a rotating basis
