Job Summary
Conduct animal control patrols across CVRD parks, catching and impounding unlicensed dogs while proactively selling licenses and educating the public. Respond immediately to dog control complaints, investigating circumstances, interpreting laws, and drafting correspondence to resolve issues. Serve notices of offense, represent the CVRD in court, and submit monthly fee reports and activity summaries. Maintain mobile phone availability for on-call duties and establish relationships with the RCMP, SPCA, and local veterinarians. Obtain Level 1 Bylaw Enforcement certification and hold a Class 5 license. Work various shifts including evenings and overnight rotations at the Comox Valley Regional District.
Required Qualifications
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be able to obtain a Reliability Clearance
- Must be minimum 19 years of age
- Have a demonstrated interest and experience in bylaw
- Be in possession of a valid Class 5 BC Drivers license
- Must have a good driving record
- Must be physically fit
- Must be able to stand for long periods at a time
- Must be able to work in a range of weather conditions throughout shift
- Must be fluent in the English language - written, verbal and reading skills
- Must have a positive attitude with a professional demeanour
- Must have strong interpersonal skills
- Must have excellent attention to detail
- Must have excellent problem solving skills
- Must have the ability to handle emergency situations in a calm manner
- Must have the ability to work independently
- Must have the ability to make sound decisions in varying situations
- Must have a demonstrated interest and experience in serving the public
- Obtain, or be willing to obtain (at Corps expense), at minimum, Level 1 of the Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative skills certificate, provided by the Justice Institute of BC or equivalent
- Be trained, or willing to be trained to deal with the public on animal control-related matters
