Job Summary
Animal Caretaker I responsible for following safety and bio-security procedures, enforcing policies, reporting equipment issues, attending mandatory meetings and trainings, participating in system-improvement teams, maintaining sanitation, and performing piglet processing tasks, vaccinations, insemination under supervision, euthanasia and dead animal disposal, and various pig-management duties (feeding, monitoring, farrowing processes). Requires ability to lift heavy loads, endure physically demanding farm work, and work weekends/holidays; must communicate effectively and maintain documentation as part of SOPs and QA programs.
Required Qualifications
- Be able to lift in excess of 50lbs moving up to 100 yards daily
- Be able to lift 15 lbs. repeatedly on a daily basis from side to side for at least 1 hour
- Push and/or pull a minimum of 500 lbs. in a cart with wheels when required
- Move, load and unload animals 600 plus pounds
- Walk and stand for long periods of time on different surfaces including concrete
- Climb in and out of crates and over obstacles
- Ladder access for feed bins
- Maintain balance on all surfaces
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Must not own or live near any swine; cannot live with someone who has contact with swine
- Ability to work weekends and holidays
- Be able to work in varied weather conditions
- Strong teamwork and communication skills

- Be able to operate in a physically demanding environment
- Ability to follow safety/QA procedures
- PQA+ (Pork Quality Assurance Training) preferred or achievable
