Job Summary
Animal Care Technician at Purdue University responsible for monitoring and maintaining the physical and environmental conditions of both large and small animals in a research or clinical setting; provide daily care including feeding, watering, grooming, bathing, exercising, and recording observations; evaluate animal conditions, collect data, maintain animal environments, and assist with stocking supplies while following approved protocols and SOPs in a collaborative veterinary education environment at the Purdue Veterinary Hospital in West Lafayette, Indiana. Must be able to lift substantial weights, operate power tools, and work under supervision with English literacy and valid driver’s license. Benefits and a non-exempt status are noted. Assistant roles support students, faculty, and staff in a veterinary medicine education setting.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- 2 years of custodial/Laundry experience and 1 year of animal handling
- Valid US or Canadian driver's license
- Must be able to read/write English
- Must be able to lift and carry 25 to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to operate power tools
- Must be comfortable working around small and large animal species
