Job Summary
Observe, monitor and maintain the health, production and physical environment within the Insourcing Solutions client animal facility. Perform routine animal husbandry tasks including cleaning, feeding, and watering of laboratory animals; clean cages and related ancillary equipment; maintain animal care environments; provide environmental enrichment appropriate to species and support to multiple lab animal facilities. Handle, transfer, and deliver animals, supplies (caging, gases, dry ice, liquid nitrogen), and waste as needed; perform daily cage duties including recycling and sanitation; monitor daily animal health and welfare; perform animal husbandry duties including water bottle and cage checks, food and water provision, cage changing/cleaning; record animal health concerns per SOP/protocols; perform humane euthanasia in accordance with the Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals; interact with customers as directed to resolve requests or inquiries and may provide technical assistance; maintain a clean and organized work environment across animal rooms and related areas; may learn basic technical skills such as fasting, body weights, and animal identification (ear notching, tattooing, microchip); follow established procedures and SOPs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred
- Minimum of 6 months of animal handling experience
- Laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility preferred
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from AALAS preferred
