Job Summary
As an Animal Care Specialist, you are the primary expert and advocate for the health, welfare, and proper care of companion animals and aquatic life within the Pet Care Center. You will ensure the health, safety, and proper care of all animals, complete and verify care tasks, maintain habitats, and manage documentation. You’ll educate customers and PCC partners, support sales and merchandising, and assist with inventory, including ordering live animals and related merchandise. You’ll collaborate with the sales team, mentor and educate partners on animal-care standards, and participate in opening/closing procedures. The role emphasizes customer-focused service, teamwork, safety, and adherence to Petco standards and policies, with a starting rate of $15.00 per hour.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with or caring for companion animals and aquatic life
- Strong knowledge of animal care, husbandry, and maintenance practices
- Demonstrated ability to educate others and communicate effectively
- Strong customer service mindset with an aptitude for selling behaviors
- Basic business, math, and inventory management skills
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Completion and ongoing maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification Program required
- HS diploma or GED preferred
