Job Summary
As a Companion Animal Specialist, you will be the primary expert and advocate for the health and welfare of companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center. You’ll perform and verify daily animal care tasks, maintain habitats, support customer interactions with animal-care knowledge, assist with inventory and merchandising, and help achieve department sales and shrink goals. The role emphasizes education for customers and PCC partners, adherence to safety and welfare standards, and collaboration with the sales team to ensure high-quality care and customer experience. Requires staffing on a part-time basis, at least 1 year of relevant animal-care experience, and completion of the Pet Care Certification Program.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year of experience with or caring for companion animals and aquatic life
- Strong knowledge of animal care, husbandry, and maintenance
- Ability to educate others and communicate effectively
- Strong customer service mindset with selling aptitude
- Basic business, math, and inventory skills
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Petco Animal Care Certification Program completion and ongoing maintenance
