Job Summary
As a Companion Animal Specialist at Petco, you will be the primary expert and advocate for the health, welfare, and proper care of companion animals and aquatic life within the Pet Care Center. You will ensure the health, safety, and proper care of all animals, complete routine care tasks, maintain habitats, and support sales, merchandising, and inventory execution. You’ll educate customers and PCC partners on animal care standards, foster a culture of teamwork, and assist with opening/closing procedures while contributing to department sales and shrink‐related goals. The role emphasizes hands-on animal care, education, and customer service in a retail Pet Care Center environment, with a minimum of 1 year of experience and a required PetCare certification program. Pay ranges from $17.00 to $25.00 hourly, with the potential to reflect state regulations and experience. This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with or caring for companion animals and aquatic life
- Strong knowledge of animal care, husbandry, and maintenance practices
- Demonstrated ability to educate others and communicate effectively
- Strong customer service mindset with an aptitude for selling behaviors
- Basic business, math, and inventory management skills
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion and ongoing maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification Program required
