Job Summary
As a Companion Animal Specialist at Petco, you will be the primary expert for the health, welfare, and proper care of companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center. You will ensure animal care tasks, health checks, and maintenance are completed to Petco standards, assist customers with knowledgeable guidance, support inventory and merchandising, and collaborate with the sales team to deliver a positive customer experience while upholding safety and animal welfare procedures. You’ll mentor partners on care standards, maintain clean habitats, assist with opening/closing procedures, and contribute to achieving department goals through hands-on animal care, education, and customer service. The role requires hands-on work with animals and exposure to animal dander, odors, and cleaning chemicals, along with flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Starting Rate: $15.00 per hour.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with or caring for companion animals and aquatic life
- Strong knowledge of animal care, husbandry, and maintenance practices
- Demonstrated ability to educate others and communicate effectively
- Strong customer service mindset with an aptitude for selling behaviors
- Basic business, math, and inventory management skills
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion and ongoing maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification Program required
