Job Summary
Lead Animal Care Professional responsible for advanced animal husbandry, wellbeing, training, enrichment, and habitat maintenance; serve as a resource and training lead for staff; provide operational coverage in the absence of the Zoological Manager; contribute to cross-functional coordination, exhibit improvements, and guest engagement; ensure safety and adherence to zoo policies; role supports care for species including Black Rhinoceros, Reticulated giraffe, Plains Zebra, Eastern Bongo, Ostrich, and Red Flanked Duiker; requires critical thinking, clear communication, teamwork, and a commitment to conservation-focused work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, or a related field preferred or equivalent experience
- Advanced experience in animal care preferably in a zoo or aquarium
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and move for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or more
- TB testing, rabies vaccination or titer verification may be required
- May be required to obtain First Aid/CPR certification or training
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record; possible Motor Vehicle Report checks
