Job Summary
Direct care of animals at Buncombe County Shelter and Asheville Humane Society Adoption Center, including cleaning animal areas, feeding, watering, medicating, enriching, and walking. Works closely with volunteers; follows cleaning and medicating protocols and safe handling procedures; monitors animal temperament and health concerns; assists Medical and Behavior Departments with handling, restraining, moving, and medicating animals; attends mandatory staff training and meetings; completes the Fear Free Shelter course within 90 days of hire; collaborates with volunteers to support AHS goals and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer knowledge
- Ability to properly utilize the shelter software
- Ability to apply proper, safe animal handling skills and knowledge of individual animal temperament
- Ability to work with volunteers and co-workers in a professional manner
