Job Summary
Animal Care Lead oversees daily shelter operations, coaching and training staff and volunteers in feeding, medication administration, observation, and behavioral evaluation to support animal welfare. Coordinates daily care routines, leads volunteer meetings, assigns responsibilities, and ensures efficient operations. Responsibilities include dog walking, cat kennel husbandry, post-surgery care, intake processing and animal assessments, training volunteers, evaluating medical/behavioral needs, vaccinations/treatment under veterinarian guidance, maintaining records, and supporting adoption activities. May supervise euthanasia under policy, and requires strong communication, organization, and safety practices within a shelter environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Certification in FearFree sheltering methods, or able to achieve this training upon hire
- Minimum 6 months’ experience working with cats and dogs in a professional environment
- Minimum 3 months’ experience working with animals in a humane society, animal shelter or veterinary clinic
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook; basic computer skills; Experience with PetPoint is highly desirable
