Job Summary
Work directly alongside zoo keepers, animal managers, educators, and veterinary staff to provide care for animals in an AZA-accredited organization. Responsibilities include husbandry, nutrition, exhibit maintenance, training, and record keeping while gaining experience in animal behavior and welfare. You will interact with guests, work in a team environment, and operate outdoors in varied weather conditions and temperatures. Tolerate strong odors, dust, hay, animal fur, hair, and dander. Commit to a 12-week schedule with 32-40 hours per week across weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings. Submit a resume, cover letter, and application via ADP. Compensation is $1000 for the full commitment.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to tolerate strong odors, dust, hay, animal fur, hair, and dander
- Have completed a minimum of 4 semesters at the start of the internship
- Capable of lifting 50lbs
- Keeper internships consist of a scheduled work week 32-40 hours with working varied shifts from weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings with a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks
- Acceptance into the program is contingent on passing a background check and negative TB test
