Job Summary
Provide daily food, water, and enrichment to shelter animals; monitor health and behavior, reporting abnormalities immediately. Assist with intake, evaluation, and treatment while maintaining accurate records and performing data entry. Execute stress and disease reduction efforts through compassionate handling and placement. Clean, disinfect, and maintain kennels, cages, and general areas following established disease control protocols. Cultivate positive relations with clients, volunteers, and coworkers through professional, educational interactions. Work 8-10 hours daily in a kennel setting with exposure to weather, disinfectants, and animal allergens. Requires Tetanus and rabies inoculations; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Available for weekend and holiday shifts.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Customer service experience
- Available to work weekends and holiday shifts as needed
- Highly motivated, outgoing, respectful, and professional
- Team player capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
- Computer skills in a Windows environment
- Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of The San Francisco SPCA
- Tetanus and rabies (pre-exposure) inoculations are required or must be waived
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of animal breeds, animal behavior, and previous experience with animal handling preferred but not required
