Job Summary
Provides daily care of animals including feeding, watering, basic grooming, cleaning, and maintains sanitary living conditions. Observes and reports illness or injury to Veterinarian/Foreperson; administers medications and vaccinations under veterinary direction; maintains animal records and health/well-being logs; transports animals between enclosures; responds to public inquiries; assists with minor repairs and operates heavy machinery (tractors, front-end loaders, snowplows, forklifts). Delivers demonstrations about animals to park visitors; facilitates classes with program staff for paid participants; contributes to enrichment programs, animal diets, and medical care decisions; monitors feed inventory and quarantines; may assist with euthanasia. Requires considerable animal-care experience and a valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License with eligibility for city equipment permits; equity and accessibility commitments observed in policy.
Required Qualifications
- Considerable experience in large and small animal care
- Considerable experience in handling a variety of large and small animals
- Experience in maintaining sanitary living conditions for animals
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' Drivers License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements
