Job Summary
Animal Ambassador at San Antonio Zoo performs hands-on care and handling of a variety of animals, provides educational information to the public through interactive presentations and demonstrations, and participates in onsite and offsite programs, events, and outreach. Responsibilities include observing and reporting animal behavior, maintaining habitats, assisting with animal transfers and displays, using operant conditioning to shape behaviors, handling and displaying animals for public programs, and collaborating with zoo staff to support the mission. Requires ability to work with diverse animal species, strong communication skills, and commitment to safety and animal welfare. Associate degree in wildlife management, zoology, biology, or related field preferred; minimum zookeeping experience and compliance with pre-employment screenings are required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum one-year progressive zookeeping experience in an AZA-accredited facility or similar
- 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record
- Pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
