Job Summary
Build, enhance, and maintain Android application features delivering reliable experiences across Expedia Group brands like Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. Design and implement clean, testable Kotlin code, including well-structured APIs and data models, while contributing to system design for mobile components such as screen flows, navigation, and backend integrations. Diagnose and resolve application issues through data-driven analysis to improve performance and stability. Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver features end-to-end, ensuring high code quality via unit and integration testing. Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions to enhance mobile product outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience
- Professional experience developing Android applications using Kotlin, including shipping and supporting features in production
- Experience owning well-defined components or services within a mobile application, including API consumption, data modeling, and integration with backend systems
- Solid understanding of Android fundamentals (lifecycle, Compose layouts, navigation, networking, threading, performance)
- Core software engineering practices such as code reviews, testing, and version control
- Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows
- Ability to safely integrate AI/ML‐enabled solutions into mobile features under guidance
Desired Qualifications
- Proficient in Kotlin for modern Android application development
- Experienced with Jetpack Compose for building scalable, declarative Android UIs
- Knowledge of mobile design patterns and Android architectures (such as MVVM, MVI or similar), including clear module boundaries, API design, and scalable data models
- Track record of improving performance, reliability, and observability of Android features at scale using metrics, logging, and experimentation to guide decisions
- Experience contributing to or influencing mobile application technical design, including system design for feature areas, GraphQL API contracts with services, and low-level UI interaction design
- Demonstrated practice of operational excellence for mobile apps, including monitoring, alerting, on-call participation, and iterative improvements based on incident learnings
- Hands-on experience leveraging AI-driven tools in development workflows or mobile product features appropriate to this level
- Familiarity with applying AI/ML concepts to enhance mobile user experiences
