Analytical Chemist (Environmental Testing)

Job Summary

Prepare and analyze environmental and drinking water samples using standard analytical techniques and EPA methodologies. Prioritize work assignments to meet extraction and analysis hold times while performing chemical analysis for organic semi-volatile compounds via GC/MS, HPLC, and LC/MS/MS. Review raw data, chromatograms, and mass spectra for accuracy and proper integration, preparing duplicates and dilutions as needed. Maintain instruments, ensure timely completion of QC samples, and record all data and unusual occurrences to the supervisor. Adhere strictly to environmental, health, and safety standards while keeping training documentation current.

Required Qualifications

  • BS or BA in chemistry or related field
  • 5-10 years analytical chemistry experience in a related Environmental Science or TIC field
  • Experience with HPLC, LC-MS/MS, LC-MS, GC-MS, and Wet Chemistry
  • Proficiency in calibration standard and QC sample preparation and analysis
  • Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Experience scheduling work to ensure that sample holding times are not exceeded and that customer service goals for turnaround time are achieved
  • Team participation and meeting management skills
  • Demonstrate good problem-solving skills
  • Work independently following written and verbal instructions
  • Cooperate and coordinate both orally and in writing
  • Reading, writing and speaking skills

Desired Qualifications

  • EPA method 1633A, 533, and/or 537.1 Rev 2.0 experience is a plus
