Job Summary
Analyze intercepted data by deciphering codes used by drug traffickers to uncover meanings regarding drugs, weapons, associates, and activities. Process incoming information to determine relationships between targets, establish target patterns, and create associational charts. Monitor oral intercepts in English and foreign languages, providing verbal and typed summaries, then transcribe and translate pertinent calls verbatim into DEA-approved formats. Operate communication collection equipment, maintain voice libraries and slang lists, and enter summary data into computerized systems. Provide oral interpretation and attend minimization briefings, while validating translations and notifying supervisors of personal knowledge of targets.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship
- Minimum of three years of translation experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution
- Good credit
- Ability to pass a criminal background investigation
- Agreement to submit to random polygraph testing
- Computer literacy
- Ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM
- Excellent command of English
- Ability to produce clear and concise oral and written work
- Proficiency with a variety of storage media (audio cassettes, video cassettes, digital media)
- Understanding of slang and colloquial expressions in the source language
- Ability to translate slang and colloquial expressions into English
- Ability to pass oral and a language evaluation in both the source language and English
