Job Summary
Perform laboratory tests required by Saybolt’s clients with supervision; assist chemists and Laboratory Account Managers in laboratory duties; ensure efficient operation to meet client needs accurately and on time. Maintain cost efficiency while upholding safety, quality of service, and asset stewardship. Follow all Saybolt/Core Laboratories procedures and safety policies; cooperate with colleagues and managers; work with laboratory data and documentation; operate and calibrate equipment; participate in safety and compliance training; read and interpret technical materials and standards; communicate findings and reports to managers and clients; willingness to work overtime and in various shifts as needed.
Required Qualifications
- A B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry or a related field
- 1 to 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret instructional and technical materials relating to procedures and safety; and applicable government regulations
- Ability to write applicable reports and correspondence clearly
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, schedulers and clients
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, percent, and quantities
- Able to set up, adjust and operate laboratory equipment with training and verification
- Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical and gas analysis, including Right-to-Know training and hazardous materials disposal
- Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into Saybolt’s laboratory computer programs
- Able to perform and maintain laboratory procedures, equipment calibration, control charting, documentation and records in compliance with QA programs
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in non-standardized situations
- Familiarity with basic computer skills and Saybolt’s LIMS program
- Willingness to work overtime and attend monthly safety meetings
- Read, understand, and apply ASTM, UOP, IP and other standards
