Job Summary
Analyst Flood role focusing on modelling floods and atmospheric perils within Swiss Re's Nat Cat team. You will lead and contribute to the modeling of floods or atmospheric perils, advise underwriters/client managers on Nat Cat topics, and work with Swiss Re's proprietary natural perils model platform. Responsibilities include developing model components (hazard, event footprints, vulnerability functions), calibrating and validating models, analyzing real-time Nat Cat events to inform business decisions, and documenting research results. The role spans global collaboration across Zurich, New York, and Bangalore, with opportunities to expand into climate change, claims inflation, secondary perils, and exposure analytics. Required qualifications emphasize advanced degree, strong programming skills (MATLAB/Python), GIS experience, probabilistic modelling, and effective communication; the role supports a hybrid work model (office at least three days per week).
Required Qualifications
- Postgraduate/doctoral degree in a related field (Water Resources Engineering / Hydraulic Engineering / Hydrology / Atmospheric Perils or closely related)
- 4+ years of relevant industry experience
- Strong programming experience, preferably with MATLAB or Python
- Experience in probabilistic event-based modelling for Nat Cat models
- Experience with GIS platforms
- Ability to collaborate and lead projects in a global team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Interest in re/insurance business and a pragmatic, agile approach
