Job Summary
The Anaesthesia Assistant provides clinical and technical support to the anesthesia care team in the operating room and peri-operative areas, administering anesthetic gases and medications, providing conscious sedation, monitoring anesthesia depth, and assisting with regional and neuraxial procedures, airway management, and IV/arterial line management under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist. The role requires graduation from an Accredited Respiratory Therapy or Nursing Program (with completion of the Michener Institute Anesthesia Assistant Program or equivalent) and current registration with the appropriate Ontario college. ACLS/BCLS certification is required. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of anesthesia-assistant experience in the OR, strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and willingness to travel between hospital sites. Scheduling includes day/evening shifts with weekend and on-call standby. Salary ranges from $101,816 to $129,480 per year (based on $/hour).
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an Accredited Respiratory Therapy or Nursing Program
- Completion of the Michener Institute (TMI) Anesthesia Assistant Program or equivalent
- Registered with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario or the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Bachelor's Degree or recognized equivalent preferred
- Minimum two years current experience in the anesthesia assistant role in operating room required
- Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant preferred
- Paediatric experience preferred
- Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support program required
- Ability to work independently
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to regularly work and travel between all hospital sites as required
