Job Summary
AmeriCorps Youth Peer Support Specialist (20-24 hours/week) provides direct peer-to-peer support, mentorship, and guidance to youth facing mental health and social-emotional challenges. The role emphasizes peer-led recovery, resilience, and empowerment, connecting participants to community resources, advocating within systems, co-facilitating workshops, and maintaining confidential documentation. This position works with host-site supervision, participates in AmeriCorps training, and may require some evenings or weekends. Location is Cincinnati, OH, with a part-time schedule (20-24 hours per week) under the program at Talbert House. Primary responsibilities include developing supportive relationships, offering empathetic coaching, aiding in goal setting, facilitating psychoeducational sessions, and coordinating access to services such as mental health, housing, and employment supports.
Required Qualifications
- Personal lived experience navigating mental health challenges, substance use, or similar life challenges and in a place of stable recovery or wellness
- High School Diploma or GED
- Youth Peer Support Certification required within the first 3 months of employment
- Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification completed within the first 3 months of employment
- Driving ability as required by host site
- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings or weekends
- Ability to complete AmeriCorps program documentation and reports in a timely manner
- Ability to engage in ongoing personal and professional growth
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team
- Commitment to serve the community and empower youth
