Job Summary
Provide professional interpreting services in healthcare, legal, and community settings across the San Francisco Bay Area, ensuring accurate oral translation between ASL and English. Deliver clear, complete interpretation with high fidelity to original communication while working effectively with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Meet the communication needs of medical professionals, patients, government agencies, and internal stakeholders. Maintain a valid California license and obtain required medical clearances and background checks as necessary. This independent contractor role offers flexible scheduling and ongoing opportunities within Interlingva, a professional agency bridging language barriers for healthcare providers, insurance companies, and government entities.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in both ASL and English
- Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area
- Demonstrated experience providing accurate, complete, and clear interpretation in medical, legal, and community settings, with the highest level of fidelity to the original communication
- Strong ability to interpret orally between ASL and English in both directions
- Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Skilled in meeting the communication needs of medical professionals, patients, government agencies, community organizations, and internal stakeholders
- Combination of formal interpreter training and/or relevant professional experience
- Willingness to obtain required medical clearances, including vaccination/immunization records and background checks, as necessary
- Possession of a valid California license
