Job Summary
Interpret into sign language any communication from instructors, presenters, and students to hearing-impaired students mainstreamed into regular classrooms. Voice orally any communication in sign language directed from the student to hearing individuals. Perform identical interpreting services during assemblies, field trips, and labs, arranging student placement and lighting to facilitate adequate visual input. Provide tutoring services to explain new concepts and assist with basic material. Attend Parent-Teacher Conference days and sit on conferences or IEP meetings to offer input. Function as an educator to promote deaf awareness and the nature of hearing impairments. Act as a liaison to coordinate communication between the regular classroom teacher and the deaf education teacher. Perform all other tasks as the supervisor may assign. Work 6.75 hours daily for 169 days, excluding lunch.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associates Degree or Higher
- 48 Hours College Credit
- Passing Score on Paraprofessional Test
- Interpreter training program
- Bachelor's degree
- Three or more years in an area related to the field of deaf education
- Certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
- National Association for the Deaf (NAD) Level IV or better
- Quality Assurance Screening Test (QAST) Level III or better
- Educational Interpreters Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) 3.5 or better
- Educational Signs Skills Evaluation (ESSE) Level 3.5 or better
- Valid Driver's License
