Job Summary
ASL Interpreter provides American Sign Language interpreting services to students, staff, and families within educational settings, including interpretation for student IEP meetings. Works under supervision of the principal, adapts classroom activities to support objectives, assists teachers with assignments, maintains materials and records, and communicates with instructional staff and parents to evaluate progress and implement academic objectives. Requires ASL proficiency, knowledge of Deaf Culture, ability to work with diverse groups across multiple classroom settings, and adherence to safety and confidentiality in a classroom environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
Desired Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred
- 3-5 years of experience interpreting in professional and/or educational settings is preferred
- Strong fluency in interpreting voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice in academic settings
- Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf Culture required
- Demonstrated knowledge and background in the Educational Interpreting field preferred
