Job Summary
ASL Interpreter needed for school-year interpretation services in Summerville, SC. Responsibilities include providing in-classroom and school-related interpretation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, facilitating communication among students, teachers, and staff using ASL and other methods, interpreting instructional content and meetings, adapting interpretation to student language levels, collaborating with teachers and staff to ensure effective communication access, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional interpreting standards, promoting student independence and self-advocacy, maintaining required documentation, staying current with best practices, and benefiting from a benefits package including PTO, holidays, and professional development reimbursements. Requires ASL proficiency, RID or equivalent certification preferred, SCDE credential as required, and fingerprint clearance; positions offer flexible contract-based hours up to 40 hours/week with potential extension or conversion opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent preferred
- South Carolina Educational Interpreter certification or credential (SCDE) as required
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Fingerprint Clearance & Background Check required
