Job Summary
Assist in the Pre-Admission Testing Department for direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, including performing phlebotomy, EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, and orthopedic procedures. Collect and transport specimens to the lab, manage sterile environments, and maintain stock of supplies and equipment. Operate emergency and outpatient procedure unit equipment, calibrate machines, and interpret physician orders for laboratory testing. Assist physicians with suturing, closed reduction, and minor surgical cases while documenting vital signs and procedures. Demonstrate competency in aseptic technique, cardiac arrhythmias, and orthopedic care, reporting any break in procedure immediately to the Charge Nurse.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with post-training as either Certified Nursing Assistant, Paramedic, Shock-Trauma Technician, Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant, or are a Nursing or EMS student
- 2+ years' experience in an acute care facility, corpsman experience, or formal phlebotomy/laboratory/paramedic training
- must demonstrate competency in aseptic technique
- must demonstrate competency in cardiac arrhythmias
- must demonstrate competency in laboratory services
- must demonstrate competency in orthopedic and minor surgical procedures
- Applicant must hold a current BLS and/or ACLS certification
- Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
