Job Summary

Transport patients of all ages from UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper to healthcare facilities, nursing care facilities, or residences with qualified personnel as mandated by the patient's condition. Perform and assist in patient transport while operating mechanical ventilators, performing IV/IO access including ED, and adhering to REMS and department protocols including special MD orders. Maintain calm and organization in emergent situations while communicating effectively with the public and working independently. Available for rotating shifts, including at least two weekend shifts per six-week schedule and two holidays annually. On-call responsibilities as directed.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • State EMT/Paramedic certification
  • Advance Life Support Attendant: Paramedic
  • Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC)
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Acceptable DMV driving record
  • AHA BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • Ability to remain calm and organized in emergent situations
  • Availability for rotating shifts as required
  • Keen sense of responsibility
  • Ability to make decisions
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good judgment
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public
  • Ability to perform IV/IO access including ED
  • Ability to operate mechanical ventilators
  • Ability to operate under REMS and department protocols to include special MD orders
  • Ability to perform additional duties as assigned

  • Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed
  • Availability to work six shifts per six week schedule
  • Availability to work at least two weekend shifts
  • Availability to work two Holidays annually

Desired Qualifications

  • 2 years of work experience as a cleared ALS provider with a 911 agency, inter-facility, transport agency or equivalent
