Job Summary
Morning News Producer at KARE 11 (TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Minneapolis/St. Paul) responsible for writing on-air news content, line-producing daily shows, pitching compelling stories via social listening and independent sources, developing original content ideas, crafting stories for all platforms, meeting daily deadlines, researching for facts, and using creative production techniques to enhance storytelling across live broadcasts and streams. The role emphasizes original storytelling, investigative journalism, and collaboration within a team, with duties spanning booth coverage of breaking news, data analytics to shape content, and using graphics, video, and sound to engage audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in journalism, communications or related field
- 1-3 years of news content experience
- Top-notch communication skills
- Solid journalistic judgement and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair and unique local content, along with community engagement
- Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
- Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content
- Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on your preferred social platforms
- Organizational skills and the ability to work under time pressure deadlines
- Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
- ENPS and Edius system experience preferred
