Job Summary
Manage the daily operations of Alliance Lab Testing Services, overseeing staff, quality control, and personnel for hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and coagulation testing. Recruit, train, and evaluate technicians while coordinating with the Technical & Compliance team to implement safety regulations and maintain continuous compliance with institutional and federal standards. Develop operating budgets, monitor expenses, and manage instrumentation inventories to support long-term departmental planning. Represent the lab in IT settings and committee meetings, acting as a liaison between clinical teams, faculty, and external partners to align scientific goals with operational capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or a Bachelor's degree and equivalent education and training as defined in 42CFR493.1489(b)(3).
- Must meet the CLIA education requirements for a high complexity testing.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist/Histocompatibility Technologist or equivalent certification with certified maintenance (as required by individual certification) of continuing education through ASCP, AMT, AAB, ABHI or equivalent agency.
- 6 years of accumulated clinical laboratory experience performing testing on human samples required, including 2 years training and experience in the designated discipline or area of service.
- At least 2 years of previous experience in a lead/senior tech/coordinator role or 1 year of previous experience in a supervisor/manager/director role (must be verified by title) in a clinical lab with a total of 4 years of clinical lab experience performing high complexity testing in lieu of 6 total years may also be acceptable.
- Knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulations.
- Demonstrated direct or indirect leadership of lab projects (new test validation, process improvement, employee engagement, etc).
- Good communications skills (written, oral).
- Proficient with MS Office Suite.
- Ability to Develop and/or present content to senior leaders and other groups.
- Demonstrated experience with change management, conflict resolution, and complex problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement is a must.
- This position is onsite - located at the Fred Hutch South Lake Union campus at 825 Eastlake Ave E., Seattle WA 98109 along with support for our Satellite Labs as well.
- 1.0 FTE Exempt
Desired Qualifications
- Master's Degree in lab science, healthcare administration, business, or related field.
- Meet the CLIA requirements for a general supervisor, technical consultant, and technical supervisor in hematology and/or chemistry.
- CAP Inspection Team Member Certification.
- Familiarity with clinical research processes and their application in clinical laboratory settings is beneficial.
- At least 4 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing in hematology and/or chemistry (2 years for employees with Master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution).
- Meets the CLIA training and experience requirements for a high complexity general supervisor, technical consultant, and technical supervisor in hematology and/or chemistry.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Budget preparation and monitoring.
- Certified CAP Inspection Team Member.
