Job Summary
Assist patients with activities of daily living, grooming, eating, and hydration while measuring and recording clinical measurements such as vital signs and intake and output. Perform patient rounding according to UHS standards, report changes in patient conditions to the Charge Nurse, and maintain a clean unit environment by defrosting refrigerators, emptying waste cans, and wiping down the Nurses' Station. After completing in-services on documentation, conduct patient discussion groups relating to recovery steps and file admission, transfer, and discharge charts. Work night shifts from 11pm to 7:30am for 24 hours weekly at UHS Binghamton General Hospital's Inpatient Addiction Medicine unit.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to assist patients with activities of daily living, grooming, eating, and hydration
- Ability to measure and record clinical measurements (vital signs, patient weight, intake and output)
- Ability to perform patient rounding according to UHS standards
- Ability to report problems and/or changes in patient conditions to the Charge Nurse
- Ability to adhere to specific guidelines of the unit regarding infection control and patient safety
- Ability to maintain a clean unit environment (weekly defrosting unit refrigerator, emptying office waste cans, wiping down Nurses' Station)
- Ability to function as a role model of recovery to promote a sense of hopefulness
- Ability to relate positively to patients and their families
- Ability to conduct patient discussion groups relating to key steps in recovery
- Ability to perform duties such as filing, stamping of charts, lab sheets, and organizing admission, transfer, and discharge charts
- Ability to perform duties under the supervision of the Charge Nurse
- Ability to complete in-services regarding documentation (progress note entries and milieu therapy flow sheets)
- Availability for night shift (11pm - 7:30am)
- Willingness to work 24 hours weekly
- Willingness to work in an inpatient addiction medicine setting
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a chemical dependency program
- Recovering person with positive experience in AA, NA, ACOA, and/or Al-Anon
