Job Summary
Provide operational and clinical leadership for specialty departments or service lines across Alaska's rural, remote, and frontier healthcare organizations. Manage staffing, scheduling, call coverage, and workflows while supporting safe, high-quality, culturally respectful care for patients in isolated communities. Lead, mentor, and develop clinical and technical teams; oversee budgets, supplies, equipment, and vendor contracts. Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards; prepare for surveys, audits, and credentialing reviews. Coordinate with physicians, executives, Tribal partners, and regional leaders to maintain essential services during vacancies, weather disruptions, or transportation delays. Develop policies, protocols, and quality standards; improve communication, process efficiency, and access expansion. Support recruitment, retention, training, and employee engagement while adapting to limited resources and significant geographic distances.
Required Qualifications
- Progressive experience in the relevant clinical or ancillary specialty
- Previous leadership experience as a director, manager, supervisor, regional leader, or comparable department professional
- Strong knowledge of department operations, quality, safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements
- Experience leading teams, managing workflows, and supporting employee development
- The ability to collaborate across clinical, operational, executive, Tribal, and regional teams
- Experience with budgeting, staffing, equipment planning, supply management, or performance improvement
- The ability to lead effectively when staffing, specialty support, transportation, or resources may be limited
- Experience serving rural, remote, frontier, underserved, or culturally diverse populations
- Experience with rural hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, Tribal health organizations, regional health corporations, FQHCs, Rural Health Clinics, or community healthcare organizations
- Experience supporting services across multiple locations or significant geographic distances
- Relevant education, licensure, registration, or certification based on the specialty
- A visible, practical, dependable, and relationship-focused leadership style
