Job Summary

Provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for rural, remote, and frontier healthcare organizations across Alaska. Partner closely with governing boards, Tribal councils, and community leadership to build trust with employees, medical staff, patients, and families. Lead long-term planning, organizational growth, and service sustainability while strengthening access to care in isolated communities. Oversee financial performance, budgets, capital planning, grants, and contracts to navigate reimbursement, funding, and regulatory challenges. Support workforce development, recruitment, retention, and succession planning while ensuring quality, safety, compliance, and accreditation readiness. Develop relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, and department directors to advocate for the organization at regional, state, and federal levels. Lead through vacancies, transitions, weather events, and operational disruptions to improve communication, accountability, and organizational culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Progressive executive leadership experience in healthcare
  • Previous experience as a CEO, administrator, COO, CFO, CNO, executive director, or senior healthcare leader
  • Strong financial, operational, strategic, and organizational leadership skills
  • Experience working with boards, governing bodies, Tribal leadership, or public entities
  • Experience leading rural hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, FQHCs, Tribal health organizations, regional health systems, long-term care organizations, or community healthcare programs
  • Knowledge of healthcare finance, reimbursement, compliance, quality, workforce, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience leading through organizational change, financial pressure, workforce shortages, or operational instability
  • The ability to build strong relationships across clinical, operational, executive, and community teams
  • Experience supporting services across multiple facilities or large geographic regions
  • Experience working with Alaska Native communities, Tribal health organizations, Indian Health Service programs, or tribally operated systems
  • A leadership style grounded in humility, transparency, accountability, collaboration, and community presence
  • Relevant education, certifications, and executive experience based on the specific organization and role
  • The ability to relocate, travel regionally, or work within a rotational structure when required

  • Overseeing financial performance, budgets, capital planning, grants, contracts, and revenue-cycle priorities
  • Helping the organization navigate reimbursement, funding, regulatory, and workforce challenges
  • Supporting quality, safety, compliance, accreditation, and regulatory readiness
  • Developing strong relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, and department directors
  • Working with Tribal organizations, public agencies, regional partners, schools, emergency services, and community groups
  • Supporting infrastructure, housing, technology, telehealth, equipment, and capital needs
  • Improving communication, accountability, employee engagement, and organizational culture
  • Experience leading rural hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, FQHCs, Tribal health organizations, regional health systems, long-term care organizations, or community healthcare programs
