Job Summary
Lead the Opelika-Auburn News and Dothan Eagle as editor, overseeing two Alabama newsrooms. Direct daily and enterprise journalism, set coverage priorities, and guide newsroom through a digital-first transformation. Grow audiences and subscriptions by leveraging analytics, reader feedback, newsletters, social media, and multimedia storytelling. Represent the newsroom in the community, build relationships with readers and local leaders, and champion accountability and public-service journalism. Develop journalists by recruiting, coaching, and retaining talent, fostering a collaborative newsroom culture, and strengthening digital and audience-engagement skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Leadership experience in a newsroom environment
- Strong news judgment
- Experience using audience insights and analytics
- Track record of developing journalists and building teams
- Excellent communication skills
- Interest in community engagement
