Conduct repairs, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures, wings, fuselages, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and hydraulic units using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment. Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structures, landing gear, flight surfaces, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engine, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation systems by reading manufacturers' manuals, service bulletins, and technical data. Perform progressive, phase, periodic, and hourly inspections of reciprocating and jet engines to detect cracked cylinders, oil leaks, sticking valves, corrosion, foreign object damage, and warping. Disassemble, inspect, and repair engine parts such as carburetors, alternators, and fuel controls, then reassemble and install engines in aircraft. Adjust electrical wiring systems, perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and service aircraft including flushing crankcases and greasing moving parts. Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft, enter maintenance records, and ensure work meets safety and quality standards. Shift work is required with detachments possible; FAA A&P license or Navy Aviation Structural Mechanics "A" School completion is mandatory.
