Job Summary
Lead, supervise, and coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft across multiple variants, focusing on ejection seats, canopy systems, escape systems, and associated explosive devices. Perform, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and operationally test aircraft egress systems while safely de-arming and restoring components in accordance with approved technical publications and explosive safety procedures. Diagnose discrepancies using specialized diagnostic equipment and interpret engineering drawings to resolve complex maintenance issues. Mentor junior mechanics, plan maintenance sequences, and complete all aircraft documentation and discrepancy reports accurately. Coordinate activities with Production Control, Quality Assurance, and Government representatives to ensure mission readiness and strict compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Required Qualifications

- Extensive F/A-18 egress system experience
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aircraft safety and mission readiness
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, aircraft maintenance stands, and elevated work platforms
- Ability to work in confined spaces, around hazardous systems, and in proximity to operating aircraft
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, crawl, and work overhead for extended periods
- Ability to safely handle explosive devices and egress system components while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to operate aircraft maintenance support equipment, diagnostic equipment, and precision measuring instruments safely
- Ability to lead, supervise, and coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft across multiple variants
- Ability to provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to Aircraft Mechanic I, II, and III personnel
- Ability to perform, supervise, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, modify, install, remove, and operationally test aircraft egress systems
- Ability to maintain aircraft ejection seats, canopies, canopy jettison systems, escape hatches, sequencing systems, initiators, explosive devices, ballistic components, and associated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Ability to safely de-arm, configure, inspect, maintain, and restore aircraft egress systems in accordance with approved technical publications and explosive safety procedures
- Ability to diagnose aircraft electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical discrepancies using engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, maintenance publications, and specialized diagnostic equipment
- Ability to utilize electrical circuitry analyzers, leak detectors, voltmeters, hydraulic test equipment, torque wrenches, cable tensiometers, dial indicators, micrometers, and precision measuring instruments to troubleshoot and repair aircraft systems
- Ability to remove, replace, rig, adjust, align, modify, install, and operationally test aircraft egress components following maintenance actions
- Ability to conduct operational, functional, and simulated system tests to verify aircraft serviceability and mission readiness
- Ability to perform maintenance on aircraft structures, flight controls, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, fuel systems, and mechanical components as required to support egress system maintenance
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), wiring diagrams, manufacturer publications, and technical directives to resolve complex maintenance discrepancies
- Ability to plan maintenance sequences and prioritize workloads to support aircraft availability and production schedules
- Ability to complete aircraft maintenance documentation, discrepancy reports, maintenance action forms, inspection records, and aircraft logbook entries accurately and in accordance with Navy maintenance documentation requirements
- Ability to coordinate maintenance activities with Production Control, Quality Assurance, engineering personnel, and Government representatives
- Ability to maintain strict compliance with explosive safety requirements, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Tool Control Program (TCP), hazardous material handling procedures, environmental regulations, and OSHA safety requirements
- Ability to support continuous process improvement initiatives that enhance aircraft reliability, maintenance quality, operational safety, and mission readiness
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
