Job Summary
Lead and supervise scheduled and unscheduled organizational-level maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft across multiple variants while serving as the designated Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) and Quality Assurance Safety Observer (QASO). Perform, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair aircraft systems including airframe, flight control, powerplant, and hydraulic components in accordance with NAVAIR procedures. Conduct CDI inspections to verify workmanship, torque application, and compliance before aircraft release, and monitor hazardous operations to ensure safety standards are met. Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to Aircraft Mechanic I, II, and III personnel while coordinating maintenance activities with Production Control and engineering teams. Complete maintenance documentation and discrepancy reports accurately.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of eight (8) years of aircraft maintenance experience
- Significant experience supporting F/A-18 aircraft or other military tactical aircraft
- Demonstrated experience performing aircraft inspections, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, modification, and operational testing
- Thorough knowledge of F/A-18 aircraft systems, NAVAIR maintenance procedures, technical publications, and Quality Assurance requirements
- Current or previous qualification as a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) and Quality Assurance Safety Observer, or the ability to obtain and maintain both qualifications in accordance with contract requirements
- Extensive knowledge of aircraft maintenance documentation, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs), Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), and manufacturer technical publications
- Proficiency troubleshooting and repairing aircraft airframe, flight control, powerplant, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, landing gear, and mechanical systems
- Experience utilizing aircraft maintenance support equipment, hydraulic test equipment, diagnostic equipment, cable tensiometers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, and precision measuring instruments
- Experience leading aircraft maintenance personnel, coordinating maintenance operations, and providing technical guidance and mentorship
- Ability to inspect, certify, and document maintenance actions in accordance with NAVAIR maintenance instructions and Quality Assurance standards
- Thorough knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Tool Control Program (TCP), hazardous material handling, and aircraft maintenance safety requirements
- Demonstrated ability to identify unsafe conditions and exercise stop-work authority during hazardous maintenance operations
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple maintenance priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required installation access credentials
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, aircraft stands, and maintenance platforms
- Ability to work in confined spaces and around operating aircraft
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work overhead for extended periods
- Ability to safely operate aircraft maintenance support equipment, hydraulic test equipment, diagnostic equipment, and precision measuring instruments
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Desired Qualifications
- Previous U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps experience maintaining F/A-18A/B/C/D, F/A-18E/F, or EA-18G aircraft
- Current or previous designation as a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) and Quality Assurance Safety Observer
- Experience supporting Organizational (O-Level), Intermediate (I-Level), or Depot (D-Level) aircraft maintenance
- Previous experience leading aircraft maintenance teams in operational, expeditionary, or deployed environments
- Experience supporting Foreign Military Sales (FMS), Contractor Logistics Support (CLS), NAVAIR, or U.S. Department of Defense aviation maintenance contracts
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
- Active Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one, if required by the contract
